Vegan Tamale Time!

How to make vegan tamales! Jackfruit edition!

Be sure to soak your corn husk in warm water for at least 1hr before your prep!

And don't forget your steamer. I use an imusa steamer from Wal- Mart 🙂

Ingredients in video:
Corn husk (though not in video but still used)

Masa dough:
4 1/2 cups Masa
2 1/2 tsp salt
1 tspbaking powder
1 tsp cumin
1tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
2 3/4 cup low sodium vegetable broth (i added 1/2-1 cup more)
1 cup sunflower oil
2 tbsp lime juice

Filling:
1/4 cup oil
1/2 yellow onion (I used 1 though cause I likes the onion taste)
3-20oz can young green jackfruit in brine (NOT syrup)
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes ( this is medium- adjust for spicy-ness)
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne (this is medium- adjust for spicy-ness)
1 can of black beans (optional)
a few dashes of dried cilantro (optional)

  1. I couldn’t see the recipe well enough and I think it would have helped if you would have talked. Otherwise good video.
