How To Make Tamale Pie – Easy Dinner Recipe

This Tamale Pie recipe with a cornbread crust is something even the novice cook can make. It is a recipe that tastes far better than the amount of skill needed to make.I highly recommend this Tamale Pie Recipe.

Ingredients for Tamale Pie:
1 Box cornbread or muffin mix
1 pound ground beef (or any other ground meat)
2 medium size eggs or 1 large
1/4 Cup Sour cream
14.75 Ounce can of Creamed Corn
1/3 Cup Enchilada Sauce
1 Chopped Onion
5 Jalapeno Peppers sliced (Optional)
1 Tsp Chili Powder
2 Cloves Garlic Minced (I did not use)
1 Tsp Cumin
2 Cup Shredded Cheese of your choice
Salt and pepper to taste
Chopped cilantro as garnish (optional)

Tamale Pie Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F
Mix muffin mix, sour cream and egg
Pour into a cast iron pan or oven safe skillet
Bake for 20 minutes and let cool
Saute onions until soft then add garlic and cook for about 30 more seconds
Add the ground beef and stir until fully cooked and broken up.
Drain off excess fat and season to taste
Once cornbread has cooled a bit, poke holes in it and pour enchilada sauce over it. Add the meat mixture and top with shredded cheese. Bake until cheese is melted. About 20 minutes
Garnish with cilantro

  1. My mom used to make tamale pie when I was a kid. It was a little different than that though. I think the cornmeal soft, more like mush.

  7. looks like with that huge skillet , you might need a bit more cornbread on the bottom, a 10″ pan might be a better size for the one box of cornbread
